Samantha Who

Tonight's episode was ok- I like the sentimental side of this show, but it is losing my interest fast.

I still love Christina Applegate and hope she is able to get this show up and running a little harder in the coming weeks. Jean Smart is still the funniest character.

Big Shots

This show is seriously poised to be the next Sex and the City for me- I love it!

Interesting lead characters, funny support characters, a lot of varied plot lines that cross paths left and right and good humor.

Can't go wrong really, but it is still in the first season, so hopefully it can sustain itself.

The premises are funny- Karl (played by Joshua Malina) is having a hard time with his wife until she gets tips from her best friend- his ex-mistress, who also happens to be living with them (read my last post it explains all that). However, while Karl is enjoying his new spicy bedroom life, Wendy, his wife is less than satisfied. The funniest line in the entire episode is when he asks if he makes her happy and she says, "You get an A+ for effort", and then he asks if he satisfies her and she says, poker faced "Can we grade on a curve?"

Frustrated, he goes back to Marla (the ex-mistress now house guest) and asks if he ever satisfied her- and in about 3 seconds she replies no. So he ends up asking her for tips so he can satisfy his wife! We can all predict where this is going- wife Wendy walks in on them (clothed) stimulating positions on the dining room table! After she freaks out for a bit, he grabs her and kisses her and she is satisfied at last.

Michael Vartan is learning how to juggle his new mega career and his children, while coping with his ex-wife's new boyfriend and his role in the kids lives as the new fun guy. I like him as an actor, but the storyline is a little too much drama, and I think his ex-wife is miscast. Not a huge fan of hers.

In an effort to win back his kids affection, he dresses up for his kids birthday party- only to find out he wore the bad guy costume and the new boyfriend has the good guy costume- and they end up punching and rolling on the ground.

Brody is somehow suffering from PMS- his hormones have synced with his wife and he is all emotional and sad- so Karl gives him medication to help, but it ends up making him all macho and testosterone-ish... not a great way to be for a guy who owns a crisis management business!

Duncan is being blackmailed by a mysterious someone who demands $100,000 not to release his name that was in a black book written by a transvestite hooker... but the money drop gets screwed up... and while he is trying to reconcile with is ex-wife, he has to lie to her to deal with the blackmail and of course she figures out he's lying and it all explodes in his face- but she is still seeing Terrence (Duncan's business enemy, now in personal life too), so I am sure that will end up being an issue at some point when he finds out.

Side point- he drives an SLR, which is a great car- which I know because I drove one for a few months, however, not an 'It' car really anymore, especially not in NY, which is where the show takes place... he needs an upgrade- if they really wanted to be cool, he should drive a Bugatti Veyron- or DB9... just a suggestion- and with a wide range in price point!

Anyway, Duncan decides to tell Lisbeth the truth about the black book and the blackmail... keep in mind she is still seeing Terrence and Duncan doesn't know...naturally before he gets a chance to explain it her, Terrence rings the doorbell- and Duncan leaves.

The twist- Terrence was offered the black book, and he buys it and gives it to Duncan, explaining that he really cares for Lisbeth and she'll never have to be embarrassed by Duncan, but he should leave her alone and let her go.

As I said, great storyline- looking forward to this week's episode!

Desperate Housewives

I love this show, but this season is seriously boring- I feel like Marc Cherry is just stringing us along until he thinks of a good storyline. I know they have great season openers, awesome season finales, and usually a huge episode mid-season. But that does not a hit tv show make!

I could write about what happened or just say thank goodness I have started watching tv online instead of on tv- otherwise I'd have stayed in on a Sunday night for nothing!

Ugly Betty

Mark has a love interest- or two!
Yay! Unfortunately Mark misunderstands that Cliff (the funny cute but not so hot one) is asking him out on a date and stands him up to go out with Marcos (the very hot male underwear model). However, in a moment of human-ness, Mark goes out with Cliff after almost standing him up and ends up back at his apartment! Yay!

I repeat from last week, I hate that Justin in turning into a 'bad guy' because his dad died. He was such an awesome character till this darkness, I hope he gets back to his good old self soon. More on that in a minute.

Betty fails miserable at dating (The old guy at the bowling alley actually sneaks out during their first date- so sad!), and keeps running into Henry at awkward moments. They end up at a romantic restaurant on date night and it's so sweet and cute. Of course, people in the place think Henry is proposing to Betty and then she gets overwhelmed and leaves, so it's sad- but you know there is hope that these two will end up together yet this season! (Plus, where did sandwich guy go? I kinda thought he'd end up as Betty's replacement love interest...) Anyhoo, Henry decides to leave Mode (wait, didn't he do this already a few times???) until Betty rushes out the door and kisses Henry full on the mouth! Huh?
They agree that for the 5 months till Henry goes to Tucson for the birth of his son by Charlie, they will be together...

Hilda has started hanging out with old women who have also lost their husbands, and while it has funny moments, it is also obviously sad. By the end of the episode she is over them, and has a moment of truth with Justin.

And DUM DUM DUM Christina's husband text messages her... (no idea where that storyline is going yet but I'm listening...)

Alexis starts to remember all the details from before the accident and Daniel finds out that she cut the breaks on their dad's car, and that's why they ended up crashing- which works well with the Justin storyline of him stealing Hilda's car and crashing it... obviously he is upset that she hasn't been paying attention to him and he is acting out... sniff sob..bring back happy Justin.

Decent episode- Wilhemina is still determined to bring Mode down to ground so she can start her own fashion magazine, and Claire Meade is still batty and is on her way to Italy with her escape convict cell-mate.

Grey's Anatomy

Yeah, I'm bored.

Meredith brings her dead mother's ashes to work and George and Izzie let everyone know they are together... Alex reunites with Ava but not really and a guy cuts off his foot with a chainsaw, on purpose.

The only touching moment of the entire episode was the end, when they finally played a decent song and Meredith sprinkled her mom's ashes down the drain in the surgery scrub room.
(and the Chief joined her... awww)

I hate that this show is so boring and predictable. Addison needs to make a cameo.

Samantha Who

Let me start with this- Christina Applegate is adorable in 'The Sweetest Thing' which is one of my favorite movies. I am glad she has a show where we get to see her talent every week.

The premise of the show is that Samantha was in an accident and has no memory from before the accident. She is trying to piece clues of who she is from things she finds and people she speaks to. Her mom (played by Jean Smart) is funny, abrasive and totally in her face. Her dad is big teddy bear, and the random friends who come out of the woodwork are hilarious.

I like Jennifer Esposito, she is really well cast.

Anyway, all the signs seem to indicate that Samantha was an awful person who lied, stepped all over people and was mean to those around her- and since she remembers none of it this all makes for a highly hilarious show.

Fr'instance, she finds a card for a doctor's appointment in her wallet, shows up and finds out it was for breast implants!!! She also forgets her fear of elevators, until she gets in one and freaks out.

It is a really cute show with great humor and funny one liners- worth watching

Pushing Daisies

I was alerted by Carla that Chuck touches the pie maker during this week's episode- if you pause at 22:32 you will see when it happens but I get why they didn't edit it out- she touched his arm (through his jacket and shirt) so I bet they rationalized that they didn't actually touch, they just...well, kind of like how they kiss through plastic wrap.

You'd think that since he let her fall earlier, she'd be much more aware of things like tapping him on the arm, but I guess not.

Still a huge fan of this show- it is whimsical and sweet, with a little sarcasm and irony thrown in- and as I have mentioned- Kristin Chenowith is FABULOUS!

The aunts are a bit kooky- attaching a dead stuffed parrot's wing to the pigeon Olive saved, but as quirky as it is, there is always a charm to each scene. And, I love how Olive gets to sing in most episodes! The Aunt Duet she does is cute...

Another thing- the girl in the windmill, plays Chuck on Ugly Betty, you know Henry's pregnant girlfriend (just think its a curious coincidence- two female Chucks)...

The ending is cute, where in beekeeper outfits, Chuck and the pie maker dance on the roof, and he finally gets to catch her

Private Practice

Dell is awesome!
I love his character on the show, and as I have said often, Chris Lowell is adorable in real life too!

He gets so much attitude from these women when he tries to do their checkups, and finally he can't take it, stops being smiley polite and rips into one of them, and earns her respect. Love him.

I am annoyed that the therapist (whose name I can't remember) is such a basket case about her REMARRIED ex-husband! I don't like the story line and Cooper keeps helping her past the bad days, only to watch her go through it all again every time her ex gives her the time of day. Yech.

Addison should have told MAYA that she needed to confess her STD to her parents- instead, she covered up and even though it turned out that Maya was covering for a friends, if it had been Maya then Addison really did betray Naomi... dunno, annoyed at that too.

The only good part of this episode (Besides Dell) was Addison's dreams about Pete, but even those got weird because he FOUND OUT and they talked about it! Huh? Talk about tension at work...
Hope next week is better.

America's Next Top Model

I know, I know, I haven't kept up- but last night I watched the three most recent episodes and I am all up to date.

I think Heather will win, and Bianca will be with her in the final two unless she makes Tyra mad because she tends to act mean sometimes.

I was sad that the Yale girl went, but she had such a bad attitude in front of the judges! I was surprised, she was quiet the whole episode and then opened her mouth at the wrong times!

And I liked Janet, even though she didn't look like a model, so I get why she went.

Last nights episode was a rip off though- The dumb girl who was in the final two who was chosen to stay opened her mouth after Tyra said her name- and left- so then Ambreal got to stay, even though she was supposed to go! She should have had to go anyway!!!

Oh well.

Not impressed with this season, but I'll keep watching.

Desperate Housewives

They finally read my blog and made it a little more interesting!

Sunday's episode was reminiscent of the early days when it was a light, funny show with a slightly dark edge. In recent episodes, it's been more dark than funny, and that was definitely ruining it for me.

Susan meets her new gay neighbors- and totally offends them. To make up, she tries to bring over warmed up store bought snacks, but gets rebuffed- so when their beloved dog, Rafael, shows up in her yard, she hides him in the garage in order to be the hero- but when Mike comes home from work early and opens the garage, said dog runs to his owner and gets yellow paint all over his $2000 D&G suit. And they still don't like Susan...

The other interesting story line was Bree- her ex-mother-in-law (from her first marriage to the now deceased Rex) shows up for the wedding shower her friends throw her for her 'baby' which is actually a front so her daughter Danielle's reputation won't be ruined (since she is the real pregnant one, and away at a monastery till she gives birth). Anyway, her mother-in-law finds out its a farce and threatens to tell all the guests, but doesn't at the last minute...

Final funny storyline- Edie finds out she has crabs, and tells Carlos, who then tells Gabrielle who needs to delouse her husband Victor. It would be gross, but it is presented in such a funny way- Gabby plays nurse with Victor and rubs the gross smelling salve on him, and at the shower, Edie smells the lotion, recognizes it and puts the pieces together that Carlos and Gabby are having an affair (even though they were once married) Dum Dum Dum... we'll see what happens next week!

Dumbeldore is GAY?

Ok, let me preface by saying you can be gay, bi, tri- whatever, doens't bother me, whatever floats your boat...

However, I find it rather convenient that J.K. Rowling randomly announced at a reading of her final Harry Potter book in NY that Albus Dumbledore was gay.

Huh? It would have been fine if it had been in the books, but she has already promised that she is done writing about them so why add that little tidbit of information now, when nothing will ever come of it but endless speculation and probably some parents who will take issue with is as it is a children's series and why did she have to go there?

You can read the article here: http://www.showbuzz.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/10/20/books/main3387946.shtml

Or, you can read Perez Hilton's funny summary
http://perezhilton.com/?p=7400

It's odd that she chose to announce it, yet it was never mentioned in any of the seven books- and makes you wonder about his private meetings with Harry......

Paris Hilton

Poor Paris!

I heard that last night at the Spike TV Scream Awards, she was harassed by some douche on an elevator- the scumbag actually bopped her on the head repeatedly with a plastic snake!
She finally turned to him and asked him why he was so mean...

Personally, I would have called security on his ass and had him kicked out ASAP, but I think she is used to abuse from random strangers and instead of making a scene just took it.

Lay off her, she's made mistakes but show me one person who has lived under the spotlight for as long as she has that hasn't made any mistakes!!!

First Post

To explain- I started my blog to give my opinion on TV shows, movies, music, and everything related to the industry- but along the way I started meeting cool people and moved to LA- so I am splitting the blog.

This part will be my reviews of all the shows, movies and music.
www.chanisays.com will take you directly to my other page, of all the events I go to and people I meet.
