Desperate Housewives 1.6.08

FINALLY a new episode!!! I am so sick of this stupid strike, it is ruining everything- award shows, season finales...they need to just go back to work or the networks need to find new writers from Britain or something, it's getting out of hand.

We left off with Lynette standing in front of Mrs. McLusky's house- entirely demolished- from the freak tornado that blew through town... and Lynette's entire family inside in the basement, possibly all dead.

There was also the small issue of a dead Victor (you'll recall the fence post through his back) and a possibly very badly hurt Carlos as well. Edie intercepted the guy with the secret bank account in the Cayman Islands paperwork, and then they blew away when Gabby fought with her to get them back. Bree dealt with the craziness that is Catherine and her husband and the stalker who claims she slept with him (and then got blown away in the storm) plus a new baby.

Mike and Susan were fighting because he is hooked on prescription meds and she is pregnant and freaking out. Now he's in rehab.

Now that we're all caught up, Lynette watches as emergency crews slowly pull away rubble from the house, looking for her family (and Ida). The scene is actually very well done- and very dramatic as one by one her kids are pulled out safe and sound, and then finally Tom... but not Ida. She didn't make it.

Lynette and Mrs. McLusky are cleaning up Ida's house- and Lynette is surprised to discover that Ida was a pro baseball player back in the day. Then, her son Parker tells them that Ida was the one who made them all get under the stairs during the storm while she sat in a corner because there wasn't enough room- so she saved their lives and lost her own.

Ida's niece shows up to grab her stuff and she's totally a bitch- she makes Mrs. McLusky give back the pearls Ida promised her (unfortunately not in writing) and then tells Lynette they don't have time to scatter her ashes in Greenville Field (where Ida played pro baseball) so they will just put her ashes in the family plot in Omaha. Lynette runs into the house and switches Ida's ashes for vacuum cleaner dust (good one Lynette) and then Mrs. McLusky tells the niece she is staying in Ida's house because her own was demolished- and the niece tells her she has one week! Later that night Lynette and Mrs. McLusky sneak to the baseball field to scatter Ida's ashes- and as they are scattering the lights come on and they get taken out by security- but not before Lynette manages to run and scatter Ida in the process! (They get let off with a warning).

Gabrielle has a run-in with Milton (Victor's father) right before Victor's funeral begins, and he informs her that he saw the photos of her and Carlos and that she won't be inheriting a dime- since everything Victor had was in his father's name. He also tells her to leave the funeral, or he'll expose her for what she did to Victor- so Gabrielle has to walk out of the church in front of everyone.
Gabby goes to see Carlos in the hospital (who has bandages over his eyes) and tells him the news about Victor's money- and Carlos says not to worry because he is still a rich guy. She tells him about how the paperwork for his offshore accounts blew away, and he starts freaking out because that was the only copy and there is no other way into the accounts (which makes very little sense- I know a bit about banking, and this just doesn't seem realistic but I'll disregard for the story line's sake) anyway, Gabby starts clicking on his pain med button and he slowly goes back to sleep.
Gabby goes to see Al (the guy who brought over the papers) only to find out he died- and she is at his wake. She says hello to his wife and finds out all his old files are in the garage. She makes a huge mess off all the papers and accidentally opens the garage door- just as they are taking out the coffin- and pretends to be devastated screaming "Why god why" and throwing papers around. Gabby finds out and tells Carlos that Al's wife shredded any offshore paperwork to protect Al, and they realize they are broke. Gabby goes to the cafeteria and while she is out the doctor asks Carlos why he hasn't told Gabby that he is BLIND.

Bree, Orson and the baby move in with Susan, Mike and Julie- who are nervous because they think Bree will take over running the house and generally drive them crazy.

Bree's contractor Walter quits because his significant other left him- and the gay neighbors (sorry can't recall their names) who introduced him to Bree tell her what happened and she tells them to fix him up with one of their friends- so they explain that in the gay world, Walter is a 3, and all their friends are 9's- and 'in the gay world, three doesn't go into nine" (Very cute pun!) Cuter still is Bree's response "Well, then we'll have to find him someone who isn't good at gay math!"
Susan walks into her house crying (because Mike is in rehab and she is lonely) only to find that Bree has transformed her home into something from a magazine- complete with dinner ready in the oven and clean laundry! Bree hosts dinner and invites Walter, to try to convince him to finish the house for them. Bree, has invited Andrew to dinner- presumably to set him up with Walter so he can get back to work!!! Andrew figures it out and confronts Bree in the kitchen. Andrew agrees to do it for a 60" Flat screen TV and Bree says if it comes in on time and under budget, she'll throw in surround sound. (Susan meanwhile now doesn't want Bree to ever leave, so she is trying to figure out how to keep Walter miserable so he never finishes Bree's roof). Susan invades their desert and starts messing it all up for Bree. It works because Walter leaves- and Bree is pissed! She confronts Susan and they talk about how Susan is glad to have Bree there because she is lonely without Mike and Bree makes it feel like home.

Sylvia Green- the stalker- is found dead from the storm, but Catherine is still pissed that her husband had an affair with her and tells him to move out. While he is packing, Dylan walks in and gets mad that he's leaving her alone with Catherine- and as he bends down to pick up the sock she threw at him, he finds the note that Catherine's aunt dropped when she died. (We still don't know what it says- but it's important).
He confronts Catherine- and tells her he's leaving because he's leaving her- not because she told him too. He hands her the note (WHAT DOES IT SAY ALREADY!?!) and walks out the door. Catherine reads it, then starts crying, tears it up and throws it into the fireplace. After she leaves the room, Dylan comes down the steps... and takes the burning pieces out- reads them- and starts to cry too!

End of episode- cliffhanger!
I am so curious to know what that note says- it better be good, I will be very disappointed if its something stupid.

Also, I am glad they gave Ida a back story even though her character is dead now- and I am sad that Carlos is blind, but maybe they'll have a miracle episode and he'll regain his sight?

Desperate Housewives

Since there was no new episode last week, I thought (incorrectly) that they had run out of new episodes to show- I was wrong thankfully, because Sunday's episode was brand new- remember- we left off on a cliff hanger with Gabrielle and Carlos leaving Victor somewhere in the water after he threatened to kill Carlos...
And now we see Victor lying on a beach- dead or asleep, who knows?

Gabrielle and Victor fight about if they should go to the police or not (Carlos wants to, she doesn't) and they fight in front of a cleaning lady. The police show up at Gabby's house and she plays like she just left him and he must have done something drastic after she told him she was leaving- but the police correct her, saying that the boat they found had NO fingerprints (indicating a dumb criminal) and that they'd keep 24/7 surveillance on her house for safety.

Mike has a prescription drug problem- he hurt his shoulder a while ago and took pain pills and is hooked now. He calls his dealer to get more pills, but the guy says Mike needs to pay in cash...
Susan meanwhile, is obsessing over the new guy Julie is dating (she looked on his online profile and knows that he has a tongue ring and a below the belt piercing). So, when Mike's drug dealer- a college med student -shows up at the door looking for Mike, you know where this is going... Susan tries to play cupid.

Bree and Orson have Benjamin and she wants to keep him in their bed at night- although as Orson points out, if the baby wants to be near the milk he'll need to sleep in the fridge!
The lack of sleep is starting to get to Orson- and he tells Bree that until she starts putting Benjamin to bed in the crib, he will sleep on the couch. Bree goes to Tom (Lynette's husband) to get advice on how to keep the marital stuff hot with a child...
So Bree shows up at Orson's office in nothing but a trench coat... (thanks Tom!)
Andrew hears his mom constantly referring to how she made so many mistakes before and needs to do it right for Benjamin, and he gets fed up and moves out. Bree brings him dinner and apologizes and they work everything out...

Lynette is calling bars all over town trying to find her mother. Tom meets her at the front door, warning her that her step-dad Glen is waiting for her in the house... and she gets all happy and huggy when she sees him. He says Lynette's mom called him for money and that she broke into a car and she's fine. They team up to go find her mom, and when they do, Lynette yells at her mom for ruining everything good she had- and for cheating on her step-dad, and then he interrupts and tells Lynette that her mom didn't cheat, he's actually gay.
Realizing this, they patch things up between them and Lynette's mom agrees to move into Glen's guest house. (side note- the entire time I was trying to place where I recognized Glen from- it's Richard Chamberlain! http://imdb.com/name/nm0000328/)

Adam, the weird 'husband' of Catherine answers the door and a random woman tries to come in- she says she came because she knew Catherine wasn't home and besides Catherine was the one who ruined their lives... (so is this woman his wife?) anyway, Mike is in the house and helps Adam get the woman to leave. Mike asks Adam if as a favor, he can write him a prescription, but Adam says an OB/GYN writing a prescription for a man would raise flags- and Mike alludes to a secret being kept both ways (meaning, he won't tell Catherine about the random woman who showed up). Anyway, Adam goes to Orson's office to try to get Mike the medicine...

Orson goes to Mike and offers him the prescription, but tells him he is uncomfortable giving it to him. Mike tells Orson he is still in pain from the accident where the guy hit him with the car (remember- it was Orson driving!) I really had forgotten about all that, but now I am curious again.

Edie sees that the Mayor is missing in the newspaper, and calls in an anonymous tip- saying that she doesn't think he's missing, she thinks he's dead.

Flash to Carlos and Gabby fighting again over telling the cops the truth. She finally agrees to go, but first she wants a drink to calm their nerves, and she (of course) adds sleeping pills to Carlos' drink. As he starts to pass out, the detectives show up again, and Gabby distracts them outside- and then they tell her Victor has been found and does she want to go to the hospital- which she of course says yes to, leaving Carlos passed out on her floor.

Julie and Barrett (Mike's drug dealer) are hanging out at the house, Mike comes in and Susan is all smiles because Julie and Barrett are getting along so well. Mike gets Julie out of the room and tells Barrett he needs to leave, but Barrett threatens to blackmail Mike about his drug use, so Mike backs off- for a moment. Mike walks in to the kitchen and tells Susan that Barrett is a drug dealer, and Susan tells Mike to throw him out, and as Barrett leaves, he says, "It's a shame, Mike was my best customer".
(Later that night, after Susan sees Mike sneak another pill from his truck, she goes to look and sees that the prescription is from Orson Hodge).
Dum Dum Dum

Gabby goes to see Victor in the hospital- and he claims the last thing he remembers in a Friday staff meeting (therefore, nothing about the boat, or being hit...)
But when everyone leaves the room, Victor whispers to her that he remembers everything...
Dum Dum Dum (and they play ominous music...)

Hope to see another episode next week- the season finally got interesting!

Private Practice

I don't even know where to start!
So much happened in the first ten minutes...

Addison avoided Pete,
Naomi avoided Sam,
Violet avoided Cooper
and all the women huddled in Naomi's office
and all the men congregated in the kitchen
while Dell watched from the front desk, completely clueless.

Anyway,
eventually Addison went downstairs to get coffee (so she wouldn't have to go into the kitchen) and she met a nice guy who let her go before him in line.
When she gets back upstairs, she tells Pete she will work with him but socially he is just an acquaintance.
Next scene, the guy Addison just met is sitting in Violet's office- he is her patient! And he shows Violet the card Addison gave him while saying, "I think the next step is for me to start dating again."

While all this is going on, the clinic is starting a program where pregnant or new mom's can call and drop off their babies if they don't want to keep them. Addison and Pete are partners.

Sam and Naomi end up discussing that they slept together, and then their priest calls them (he doesn't know they got divorced and they are freaked out that he called them the day after they slept together) but all he wanted from them was to have them see a nun who is mysteriously sick and doesn't trust hospitals.

Ok- the show just got hilarious for a random reason- the girl who plays Danielle Hodge (Joy Lauren http://imdb.com/name/nm1280053/ ) on Desperate Housewives just called Addison to surrender her newborn daughter! If you watch Desperate Housewives you'd know that on the show she just gave birth to a boy... she's having a very fertile season! Anyway, she has this little girl at home, her mom doesn't know, and she hands the baby over to Addison.

Meanwhile, the rash on the one nun has spread and now all the nuns are getting sick and have the rash. The disease specialist calls back and it turns out they all have Typhoid (which I am not sure what it is besides a bad disease that is killer in third world countries and extremely contagious).

Cooper is trying to get 'back on the horse' so he arranges a date online and when he shows up it turns out to be Charlotte, the blonde bitchy doctor from the hospital! Instead of laughing she gets mad and walks out.

Addison spends the night with the new baby at the office-but can't find her other shoe.

And now it gets gross.
Carl, the new guy Addison is dating has a secret otherwise he wouldn't be seeing Violet in the first place, so when Violet gets called to the ER and it's Carl- who has just had a high heel shoe removed from his, let's put this delicately, rear end- the nickname she told Pete and Cooper that Carl calls himself makes sense- Trunk. And yes, he stole Addison's shoe.
He tells Violet to tell Addison he can't see her anymore, he can't trust himself around her shoes.

Turns out the nuns got sick from the priest who was sneaking in for cooking lessons.

And the little girl baby gets taken back when the grandmother finds out her daughter had a baby and didn't tell her- they name her Melanie.

Cooper asks Charlotte (the doctor from St. Ambrose) out for a drink, and she makes him promise its just a drink, but of course the next scene is them in bed...

Addison finally ends her long day, and Pete tells her she shouldn't be alone, but she walks away and knocks on Sam's door, and finds Naomi and cries.

It was actually a decent episode.

Desperate Housewives

Sunday's episode was ok, but pretty tame.

Gabrielle went on a secret boat trip with Victor, unaware that he knew about her affair with Carlos because of the pictures Edie showed him. Carlos calls her while she is on the boat and tells her that Victor knows, and then Gabrielle thinks Victor is trying to kill her and hits him with an oar, knocking him overboard. She drives the boat back to the dock and meets Carlos, who insists they have to go back and rescue Victor! When they do, Victor grabs a knife and goes after Carlos, so Gabby whacks him again- only this time he doesn't come back up- and although they search for him, they can't find him. They dock again and then realize that since no one knows he was taking Gabrielle out on the boat anyway, of they just set the boat adrift, people will assume he killed himself when he found out she was leaving him.

This definitely leaves the window for Victor to have swum to safety or something open.

Dylan confronts her mom about her dad, and her mom totally lies to her and says her dad used to beat her and she is free to go find him, but can't tell him where her mom is... total lies, but not sure what the real truth is. Might be hyped up to the point where when we finally get the truth, it will suck.

Lynette tries to pawn off her mom on her other sisters, but they bring their mom back and during the ensuing fight (where Lynette realizes she is the only one who actually cares what happens to their mom) Grandma gets in a taxi and goes away...

...Bree decides to get new baby Benjamin circumcised- while Orson is completely against it (he had a bad experience with it himself at the age of 5). He stops her from getting it done by faxing all the doctors in the area that he does not give his permission, but Bree outwits him by going to a friends baby's bris and convincing the rabbi to do it for her baby too. Bree also meddles with Mike and Susan, finding a pill that isn't aspirin on the floor and telling Susan she thinks Mike is on drugs.

Susan confronts Mike, who lies, but then she finds a stash of pills and confronts him again- and he tells her the truth- he hurt his shoulder but can't stop working because it costs $10,000/year to send babies to private pre-school and he needs to be able to provide for their baby...

Not a bad episode, but hopefully next week will be a bit better.

Desperate Housewives

Woah, heavy episode this week.

Danielle had her baby- it's a boy- and she agreed that Bree will keep him and she leaves for college.

Lynette kind of loses it and tries to kill the possum that creeps around her backyard, and then receives the good news- her cancer is gone! The scene where she walks into the backyard with the whispery music in the background and looks up the sky and lifts her arms and smile- award winning- until she looks down, sees the dead possum and sits on the grass crying and apologizing...

Edie takes her pictures of Carlos and Gabby to Victor, so we know that will be an issue next week.

And Susan finds out Mike's dad isn't dead, just in prison serving a life sentence for murder. Susan is mad at his dad because he doesn't feel any remorse for the murder and she is worried it will be passed down to her baby...

Good episode... some funny moments, but well done for the first time in a while- if only they don't get totally screwed by the writer's strike!!!

Private Practice

Better episode this week, not so much humor but good plots.

Dell speaks up about a girl who Copper suspects is being hit by her mom, and Sam gets mad that he voices his opinion- until Dell explains that the girl shows the same signs and does the same things he did when he was 'in that situation'- so we find out that Dell was abused, that's really sad.

Valerie Mahaffey is the actress who played the mother with MS who beats her daughter (she was also Alma, the dead/missing wife of Orson on Desperate Housewives a while ago). She is great at what she does because after this episode I remembered how much I hated her when she was playing Alma- there is just something about her- her voice, her look- that makes me think of nails on a chalkboard!
http://imdb.com/name/nm0536723/

And in finally news- Addison and Pete FINALLY kiss! Of course Sam walks up as they are kissing and that interruption gives Addison her excuse and she walks away, so we are once more left hanging- will they/won't they- but it's all good.

Desperate Housewives

I love this show, but this season is seriously boring- I feel like Marc Cherry is just stringing us along until he thinks of a good storyline. I know they have great season openers, awesome season finales, and usually a huge episode mid-season. But that does not a hit tv show make!

I could write about what happened or just say thank goodness I have started watching tv online instead of on tv- otherwise I'd have stayed in on a Sunday night for nothing!
