Ugly Betty 1.2.4.08

Last week left off with a cliffhanger- actually a few!

This week, the episode starts with Betty sitting in Hilda's beauty chair getting her hair done- she's letting Hilda practice on her before she gets real customers. Betty is getting ready to go see Henry's band- The IRS (Internal Rhythm Service).

Christina is staying in Wilhelmina's house for the pregnancy- or at least until they know if the embryo implant was successful.

Betty sees the show is tanking, and suggests Henry sing instead of the absolutely tone deaf singer- but Henry doesn't want to. Daniel shows up to support Betty and Henry- and suddenly (randomly) Gabrielle Union walks up to Daniel and gets him to dance (she's on this show?). Yup, she's on the show- her name is Rene and she picks up Daniel by asking him to dance to make her boyfriend jealous- but when her 'bf' starts kissing another guy, the gig is up. She was lying to just hit on him.

Amanda and Marc are being, well, Amanda and Marc and talking about how Gene Simmons is her dad- Marc suggests she write a song, record it and post it on YouTube for Gene Simmons to see. Betty gets Daniel to let her interview Phillip Roth and write an article for the magazine, and then the scene flashes to Daniel and Rene kissing in his apartment- and as they are kissing in the dark, Daniel's mother speaks up- she is on the bed waiting for Daniel... Rene isn't fazed, but she leaves and says she'll be in touch.

Meanwhile, Betty is excited to get her big article written. Turns out it wasn't the guy she thought it was (Phillip Roth) instead it's Phil Roth... but she perks up and introduces herself to him. His new book is called "Tap That- How to Score With Hot Bitches". ASS- Approach, Subdue, Score. EK- Esteem Killer. These are terms the slimy Phil starts throwing at Betty about how to pick up chicks! She stumbles on trying to interview him professionally, but he's so crude. Amanda walks in and he demonstrates by using the 'EK' (of course it wokrs) and Betty wraps up FAST, but not before he autographs a copy of his book for her.

Daniel's mom has no one to talk to so she starts bugging Daniel. And she's cleaning his apartment- found the dirty mags... Daniel asks Betty to find something for his mom to do... a cruise maybe.

Betty gives Daniel an article about Hilda's new business because she didn't want to write about Phil Roth. Daniel fights back and tells Betty she is 'literally judging a book by its cover' (the woman has an apple in her mouth and is on a platter). Daniel says she doesn't have to do the article, because Phil called anyway and asked for a different writer because he thought Betty was too closed minded- which makes her determined to read the book and actually do to article.

Cut to Daniel and Rene making out in her apartment... after he sees her figure in the shower and goes to join her- only to find WILHELMINA!!! Rene is her sister!!! She didn't tell Daniel because he was afraid it wold scare her off, and he says she was right and leaves. Wilhelmina confronts her and tells her off for bringing Daniel to her apartment when she gave her a place to stay. They argue about it, so you know there will be trouble... turned out Christina was sitting in the kitchen and heard it all.

When Daniel talks to Betty about it, he admits he really liked her... but she's Wilhelmina's sister...

Amanda and Henry figure out that they need each other- he is looking for a lead singer and she is looking for a and (its really funny how the scene plays out actually).

Henry and Betty are reading 'Tap That' and she keeps harrumphing about how awful the guy is... Henry is intrigued and they decide to try his methods and see if they work- except Betty wants to ask Geo to do it (because he's a dog) even though Henry offered...

And when Betty and Geo are sitting in the bar discussing the girl Geo is going to try it on- they see her give her number to another guy- HENRY! Showdown between Henry and Geo people! They make a bet- whoever gets the most phone numbers wins. Henry starts out really sweet with a girl "You have an amazing face" and she starts to walk away and he goes on, "Your doctor did an amazing job!" Ouch
But it totally works- as does Geo's line about some girls slutty outfit...
They continue trading horrendous barbs with the girls in the club, getting phone numbers, and giving them to Betty to hold.

Daniel and Alexis argue between each other about who their mom should stay with, but Claire hears them and huffs away- so Alexis loses at Rock, paper, scissors and goes to talk to their mom.

Rene shows up at Daniels office and tells him she knew who he was and walked up to him at first to make Wilhelmina mad, but then actually liked him. Daniel holds out and says they should forget it ever happened (good move, she's trouble!)

And the phone numbers are in- Henry wins! (Geo takes all the numbers though...) Betty is testy- mostly because Henry proved the stuff in Phil's book worked. Hilda tells Betty its not a bad book, it gives guys confidence to talk to girls...

Daniel shows up randomly at Betty's house to talk about Rene. Betty tells him if he can't stop thinking about her, maybe he should go for her, give Rene a chance.

Wilhelmina walks into the kitchen the next morning and sees Daniel poking through the fridge- and he tells her all the places he and Rene had sex in Wilhelmina's apartment. She warns him that he'll regret it, because of Rene, that he should be careful.

Amanda and Marc are working on her song for Gene Simmons- so far she has "Gene Simmons, fire breather, blood spitter, I am your little gi-ir-l!"
But they aren't feeling it. They freestyle a little and it's SO FUNNY!

Claire decides to start a magazine called 'Hot Flash' for all the women like her who don't know what to do with themselves anymore...

Betty meets with Phil Roth again and admits (begrudgingly) that it works on some girls... turns out he never told Daniel that he felt Betty was closed minded- Daniel made it up to get her to writ the article.

The elevator opens and Daniel is immediately confronted by an upset Betty. He explains that he did it to get her to step outside of her comfort zone and write about things she doesn't always know about or feel comfortable with. He also tells her that her article is great, and that he really liked it, but then he tells her it won't get published because Alexis pulled the story. Poor Betty.

Henry explains to Betty that he hates when Geo is around because it makes him jealous, not that he doesn't trust her, he doesn't trust Geo though. She tells him she won't see Geo anymore.... no biggie.

Amanda is getting ready to sing with Henry's band... she actually starts with "It's Mandy bitch!!!" (She pulled a Britney!) She goes into an awesome song- and Marc is recording it- Marc asks the guy in front of him to move and the guy turns around- AND ITS GENE SIMMONS!!! Marc tries to tell her, but she just dances more and more- and ends with Gene's famous tongue/fingers thing. After the song, Gene talks to Amanda and they hug it out (awww)... then they go to get a drink and talk it out.

Henry freaks a little because Amanda left and the band has no singer- now who is going to sing? Betty makes Henry go up to cover for Amanda- and he says he's too scared- but does it with Betty... they sing "It Takes Two to Make the Thing Go Right..." a pretty bad cover but the bar gets hopping!

Rene passes Wilhelmina on her way out to meet Daniel and tells her she better tell Daniel the truth (about what???)if she really wants it to work out... and of course Christina overhears...

That's all folks- see ya' next week!

The L Word

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I just recently got into watching 'The L Word' on Netflix- well, to be honest, I watched the recap of season 1 because my free viewing starts with season 2... but anyway, as I am watching the recap and figuring out the show is basically a lot of lesbians, kissing, some jealousy and kissing some more, I realize that

A) Daniel Meade from Ugly Betty is on this show! I know he has a name (Eric Mabius) and isn't really Daniel Meade but AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH how did I miss all of this???? How did he get on a tv show and I not have seen it till 3-4 years LATER????
(I know the answer- we cancelled our cable when we started travelling all over the place and this scrumptious nugget of tv gold literally passed me by, that's how I missed it!)

B) Rosanna Arquette does not age. At all.
Seriously- watch her in "The Whole 9 Yards" or that movie she made with Madonna (Searching for Susan maybe?) Woman hasn't changed a day in the last 25 years- kudos, I want the name of her doctor, for when I start, not changing, and all that...

C) I am not a lesbian- maybe I could have been in a different life, but I am not one- although I do admit that if Angelina Jolie ever propositioned me I'd be extremely hard pressed to refuse her but that is neither here not there- point is- there is a character on this show that makes me want to bite her lips. Not in the I-love-you-and-will-spend-the-rest-of-my-life-with-you way more of the your-lips-look-biteable-come-here-so-I-can-see-for-myself way. I cannot explain it further than that, but her name is Katherine Moennig (Shane on the show) and seriously, I did not think this would ever happen but I may have found my 2nd place femme crush...

This show may have been a Pandora's box I cannot afford to deal with right now... I'll let you know how it goes, I begin...

Ugly Betty 1.17.08

I know, I never post on the same night it airs on TV, but today I am actually watching the show as it airs on TV... believe me, I won't be making a habit of this- I much prefer watching shows a day later, online, with the ability to pause and rewind... anyway, on to the show

Betty wakes up in Gino's store with handcuffs on and the huge window broken and a police officer writing a report... flash back to three days earlier... Daniel is preparing to testify at the trial for Fay Summer's murder, in defense of his mother. Betty gives him and Alexis the usual pep talk...

Wilhemina and Marc ask Christina to be the surrogate of her baby, but doesn't tell her that it's from Bradford Meade's sperm. They know Christina needs the money for her husband's experimental surgery to save his life, and offer her $100,000- but she refuses. Christina tells Betty, and also tells her that she has another way to get the money- from an old dress that Jacki Kennedy wore to a white house dinner that Christina found in the closet at Mode. (But neither of them see Marc hiding in the corner, listening)

Amanda goes into her mother's secret-sex-room and finds that all the other Mode employees know about it and use it for their breaks- so Amanda decides to take all of her mother;s things out of it- and sees a bunch of diary pages taped to the back of one of her paintings. (Then a voice narrates some of the words on the page- I can't place the voice...)

Daniel, Alexis, Betty and Claire are all sitting in a pre-trial meeting discussing what will happen. Claire gives Betty her favorite perfume bottle, but Betty refuses to accept it, only says she'll keep it safe till Claire gets out of prison.

Alexis testifies, and since she was 'dead' at the time it happened (really in hiding getting a sex-change operation without her family's knowledge), her testimony isn't really so helpful.

Amanda continues reading her mother's diary- and the narration tells us that the perfume bottle was a gift that Bradford gave Claire- but it was a poisoned bottle of perfume that Fay Summers suggested Bradford giver her to convince her he wasn't having an affair and Fay swapped the real perfume with the poison so it would kill Claire- and now Betty has it- AND IS WEARING IT!

Henry smells Betty and tells her she smells fantastic- and Betty is acting like she is on speed- she has done everything in the office and is on accomplishment overdrive (obviously an effect of the poisoned perfume).

During a break during the trial, Daniel breaks change at the courthouse food court, only to get caught looking as though he is bribing the judge from his mom's case- cuz he is the one who needed the change, and the judge has to recuse herself.

Betty keeps spraying the perfume on herself- she is addicted to it. Gio brings her a sandwich she orders and Betty says the sandwich tastes like purple and sunshine... she also orders another sandwich to pack for Henry to take on his trip to Tucson to see Charlie get her sonogram... Gio tells Betty she smells really good...

Back to the trial- even though the Judge had to get recused, the lawyer says he only lost one case ever- and of course the new Judge is the one he lost to. Not good... and I can't place the actor who plays the lawyer but I recognize him and he's funny.

Betty is still acting crazy... she gets all excited about the colors some of the models are wearing... Henry notices but he has to go and asks Betty for the care package- and she runs into him and kisses him in front of everyone in the office...

Amanda and Marc are reading more of the diary and she tells him about the poisoned perfume that was meant to kill Claire but drove her crazy so she killed Fay first- and realize that the pages are evidence that would free Claire Meade- so Amanda decides to burn them, but Halston runs away, so she tells Marc to do it, even though he stutters that they should turn the pages over to someone...

Wow, commercial break- um, it moves a lot faster when I watch it on TV for some reason, even if the commercials are longer, and much more annoying!

And we're back! Betty is singing and dancing around her house talking a mile a minute... even eating a bottle of whipped cream for breakfast... and surreptitiously scratching at her neck...

Daniel's testimony in court begins and the lawyer makes mince meat out of Daniel (plus the new Judge is absolutely not in his favor).

Betty is sitting in the office waiting for Henry to call and being a little crazy... she sprays more perfume on herself... Gio comes to see her and apologize for saying that Henry would cheat on her while he was in Tucson. She works herself into a tizzy about him not calling and starts attacking Gio (while yelling that Henry must be with Charlie)... it gets out of hand and she yells at him to leave (cue ominous music) and sprays herself with more poison perfume.

Marc tells Wilhemina about Christina's plan to sell the vintage Jackie O dress, and they plan to take the dress so Christina needs to accept her offer and carry her baby.

Betty makes change for Amanda, while sweating and ranting about Gio and Henry, and Amanda sees Betty spray the perfume on herself... and it clicks... yup, the perfume must be the poisoned one... Betty writes Gio and note about how she doesn't like him and marches down to his shop and throws a garbage can through the store window and then passes out... (so basically we are exactly where we were when the show started tonight, just now we know about the poisoned perfume).

Betty is at the doctor, Gio came with her, and Hilda comes running in, with her dad and Justin right behind her. The doctor sees Betty, and makes everyone leave the room- so he can ask her if she is using drugs! She denies it, and he tells her if she's not doing drugs, then someone is drugging her!

Christina brings the auctioneer in to see the dress, only to find that it has been shredded! She confronts Wilhemina and Marc, and they don't admit they ruined the dress, but re-offer the money if she'll carry the baby.

The blood work comes back and they find out that Betty has been poisoned, drugged- and could have died from the toxins!!! She realizes that the perfume must have been what has been poisoning her, and runs back to the office to get it- but it's gone! She realizes Amanda took it- and confronts her. Amanda tells Betty the truth about the diary, the perfume and Fay... but refuses to go to court to free Claire. Betty guilt's her into returning the perfume by asking her if she really wants to take away Daniel's mother from him...

When Betty tells Daniel, Alexis, Claire and the lawyer, they don't really believe it at first, but call Betty as a witness anyway. She testifies how the perfume made her crazy even though she's only been using it for a day- and points out that Claire was using it for six months. The Prosecutor asks Betty why Bradford would poison his wife, and since Betty can't produce the diary pages he makes it look like she's lying to protect Daniel. The Prosecutor walks forward and takes a huge swallow of the perfume- and pretends to be sick for a moment- and then is fine, because there is only water in the bottle...
cut to Amanda and Marc in the secret-sex-room- Amanda is holding a vial of liquid and says, "I didn't give her the perfume, say goodbye Mrs. Meade."

cue more ominous music, and fade to black (and commercial).
(Have I said yet today how much I enjoy this show? So refreshingly different... and funny)

Marc doesn't want to dispose of the perfume for Amanda, and gives her back the diary pages because he doesn't want to destroy them- he also tells her Claire is Innocent and the reason Amanda makes Marc do all the dirty work is because she can't admit to herself that her mother was the one who did wrong. She slaps Marc, but then they hug it out.

Claire is testifying and it's not going well, and Betty gets a text from Amanda to meet her in the hallway- she gives Betty the diary pages and the poisoned perfume- and Betty rushes in and gives the evidence to the Judge- and then the Jury finds Claire not guilty by reason of temporary insanity. She's a free woman!

Back at the office, there is a celebratory party, and Daniel hugs Betty... side bar- I love Claire Meade's outfit... Betty apologizes to Gio, for the window and the note and they hug it out too... and then Betty goes to hug Claire, and we see Gio watching Betty with adoring eyes.

Christina, Wilhemina and Marc are at the doctor's office getting Christina pregnant and Betty opens the door- Christina invited her to help her through the procedure- and the next nine months...

Ugly Betty 1.11.08

How I have missed this show!

It is fashion week in Mode World (attention NY- Fashion Week actually does kick off on Friday,Feb 1 this year- beware, the city will be in chaos the entire week) and there are gorgeous models all over the Mode offices... Betty gives Justin's class a tour and she sees that the kids are all really affected by how the models are sooo skinny, and they all throw out their lunches per the order of their snobby leader (and peer-pressure the only normal girl in the class to do the same) and she gets motivated to make Daniel change Mode so it gives a better message to kids.

She asks Daniel to have 'healthy models' as his theme, and that in turn will support Betty's idea of role models the kids can look up to. However, Alexis shoots down Daniel's suggestions at the meeting... and when he confronts her about it afterwords, she pulls rank and still says no.

Wilhemina is 'Hormonistic' (her term , not mine) and Mark gives her hormone shots so she can go ahead and use the stolen Bradford Meade sperm to get pregnant and claim some of his money and hopefully gain ownership of Mode too. She hits a speed bump in her plan when the doctor tells her she'll be lucky if they can get one viable egg from her to fertilize- and that she'll need to find a surrogate because she can't carry a baby due to her 'hostile womb'.
(I get that this is a funny story line because of her character, but it is a bit insensitive to women who actually need to use IVF in order to have children- it is in reality an emotional, painful process and while the humor here is appreciated, it shouldn't overshadow how serious the procedures are in real life).

Anyway, Wilhemina and Mark brainstorm to think of a good surrogate- and she looks at her manicurist Brandy who has five kids with a look in her eyes.... and cut to a scene where Wilhemina is offering Brandy any of her fur coats to convince her to carry her baby and Brandy accepts...

Mark tries to help Amanda get over her sadness over not knowing which star her mother slept with at Studio 51 is her real father- and so he brings her a psychic to help her. She's played by someone I recognize, but not enough to bother looking her up on IMDB, you're on your own there. Said psychic tells Amanda she will rescue a black dog, that's it.

Celebrity sighting! After Daniel lies to Betty and tells her that Alexis is on board for the healthy models issue, Betty runs into Bow Wow (formerly but no longer 'Lil') as he gets onto the elevator- and they get stuck. As Amanda sits at her desk listening to the alarm from the elevator, Bow Wow hits on Betty and she (politely) turns him down. Eventually the alarm bothers Amanda and she gets the elevator fixed- thereby rescuing a BLACK DOG per the psychic's forecast! (it sounds racist as I reread the sentence, I'm sorry- can't think of a nicer way to say what happened). Amanda goes back to the psychic, who tells her to find a B who will lead her to a kiss who will lead her to her father. Cryptic. Her B is of course, Betty...

Christina gets the bad news that the experimental treatments her used-to-be-secret husband came to America to get won't be covered by the company's health plan, and Mark overhears in the fashion closet and tries to be nice...

Alexis rigs the scales for the healthy model weigh in (it automatically adds 20 pounds) and Betty finds out. Betty confronts Alexis, only to find out that it was Daniel's idea in the first place. He tells her he lied because Alexis said no to the whole idea, and he didn't know how to tell her. To make up for it, Daniel shows up at Betty's door with invitations to an alternative fashion show hosted by both him and Betty showcasing real women...

Mark and his boyfriend (Chad, Craig? I forgot his name) are looking for a movie too rent and go into the 'back room' to find something they will both enjoy- and (ready for this twist folks?) find a raunchy video starring none other than Brandy, manicurist-mother-of-five-soon-to-be-surrogate-for-Wilhemina!!! As Mark says "If she can do that with a ping-pong ball imagine what she can do with a baby!" Ewwwww. After firing Brandy, Mark suggests desperate for money Christina as the surrogate... hmmmm

Amanda corners Betty and takes her to the secret sex room and tells her what the psychic said- and alludes to needing to kiss Betty to find out who her father is- Betty refuses and starts to leave but somehow they bond over the fact that both of them lost there mothers... and then as Betty is leaving she picks up a photo that has fallen of Amanda's 'Who's My Daddy' wall- and it is Gene Simmons from KISS!!!!

Betty's alternative fashion show rocks- and Bow Wow sings live with Omarion! Betty even takes a stroll down the runway herself... glad to have one of my favorite shows back! It can only get better...

Ugly Betty

Usually, I blog as I watch the new episodes- catching upon the post during commercial breaks. This allows me to describe the episode with greater details and also helps me catch the funnier lines.

However, I watched Ugly Betty this week very late and on my laptop in bed, and was too lazy to type as I watched, so here goes:

Mr. Meade died at the end of last weeks episode and now its his funeral. Claire gets to attend, and Wilhemina crashes at the end of it. Daniel and Alexis push her into the open grave, and then with Claire, they vote to fire her. Wilhemina goes to her office, and uses a cd she got from an affair with someone in the Pentagon, she infects the entire computer system at Mode and deletes all their files.

Betty quit Mode, but finds out that somehow all the Mode files have been completely wiped from the computers and the issue has to go to print in a few hours. She steps up and calls everyone and helps Daniel and Alexis get the issue out.

The actress who is supposed to be on the cover is in rehab and they can't get in touch with the photographer who shot the pictures, so Daniel decides to go to the rehab center and break out the actress so he can reshoot the cover. Turns out, it is Eliza Dushku finally getting some work and appearing on the show as a snotty obnoxious brat. (I actually like most of the stuff she's done, just find it funny that she was imitating all the Britney/Lindsey shenanigans).

Alexis goes to sweet talk the printer into extending their print deadline... and ends up talking about life with a midget (you kind of have to watch it)

Anyway, the cover shoot goes bad when Daniel has a moral dilemma and decides not to give the recovering actress any alcohol - and she trashes the set and storms out.

In the end, the cover is a black 'blank slate' and folds out with the words 'In Memoriam, Bradford Meade'.

It is a great episode, and worth watching. Oh, and Betty took her job back. And they had a pink Christmas tree.

Ugly Betty

Last week left us hanging...

Monique guests as the night security- she is so funny.

Betty was fired because she hid the truth about Wilhemina cheating on his dad, and goes to clean out her desk. There's this weird scene where Betty meets Betty-from-the-past-on-her-first-day, and it's just odd.

Then, to make it weirder, Daniel's mom pops out of Betty's closet at her house (with her sidekick from prison) and asks Betty for a favor- to make sure Bradford hasn't changed his will to include Wilhemina instead of Alexis and Daniel. She wants to make sure her kids are taken care of so she can leave the country.

"Sweet like sugar, soft like suede, but unlike a piano, I never get played"
Henry sweet talks Lamanda (Monique's character) so Betty can sneak past the front desk and look for the will (she isn't allowed into the office because she got fired...)
Unfortunately, Wilhemina and Marc make it there first, and Betty and Henry have to scramble to make an excuse for why they are there (the best both sides come up with is they are looking for mementos to remember Bradford)
Betty cracks and admits she knows the will is in the wall safe and has the combination, and they agree to read the will and go on their own ways.
Unfortunately again, the safe is empty.
At the same time Marc and Betty realize it must be in the secret sex room, and Marc pushes Betty's glasses off her face, and then does the same to Henry and he and Wilhemina lock them in the office and run out.

While this is going on, Ignacio and Hilda discover Claire Meade and her cell mate hiding in Betty's room and after hearing their plan to leave the country, Hilda agrees to give Claire a makeover so she looks like her fake passport.

Marc and Wilhemina find the will, but it says she only gets half of his estate UPON THE PRONOUNCEMENT OF THEIR MARRIAGE and since the wedding never got pronounced...
Betty and Henry crawl through the heating ducts to try to get to the secret room, but miscalculate and Henry lands right behind Lamanda...

Bradford wakes up from his coma, and Daniel finally gets the chance to tell his dad how much he loves him, but chickens out...

I won't write about the rest of the episode- you need to watch it.
Awesome music at the end- U2

Ugly Betty

Last week there was a little hint about who might be Wilhemina's replacement bridesmaid- Victoria Beckham. No one was sure if it was a joke, or is she would actually guest star on the show...

"This wedding is so fancy, Armani is wearing PRADA"
That is how Mark starts off the episode, so you know it's a good one!

Anyway, Posh is stealing the show from Wilhemina- she is giving interviews, she says they are so close she considers 'Willy' her second mum, and she gives Wilhemina a year's supply of 'Beckham 24/7' her new energy drink! I love it- even on TV she is networking and using every angle as a PR dream!!!

Completely overshadowed is the drama between Betty and her dad when he finds out Betty is seeing Henry secretly... and Hilda has been covering for her. They get into a fight and Betty ends up packing her bags and storming out. (But she confesses to Hilda that the reason their dad git his visa in the first place was because of a deal she made with Wilhemina).

Daniel can't win- even though he got the jewellery ad, Alexis still got a lot more ads from huge names and their dad asks Alexis to be his best man- even though he already asked Daniel!

In a much funnier turn of events, Christina's (secret) husband Stuart shows up at Mode looking for her- apparently she just left him one day in Scotland, and now he is looking for her. Christina spots him in the hallway as Betty is telling her about all her issues, and shoves Betty into the secret sex room Faye Summer's hid in the wardrobe room. (I had forgotten that only Mark, Amanda and Christina know about this room!)

The scene shifts to a Vera Wang cameo where Wilhemina is trying on the original one of a kind dress specially made for her- until Posh shows up in a dress proclaiming 'This is major' and all the attention in the room-including that of Vera Wang herself "I have a new muse"- shifts to Victoria. Wilhemina kicks out Vera Wang (has anyone actually ever done that in real life?) and changes Posh's entire dress into a short puffed sleeve shift with a bow. Victoria says "You're not serious?" and Wilhemina agrees adding "Mark, get her some flats!"
Love it!!!

Hilda called and told Henry what happened between Betty and their Dad, and Henry tells Betty she's not staying with Christina- she's moving in with him.

Stuart and Christina start talking and he apologizes for not being a good husband, and she apologizes for just up and leaving and never getting in touch.

Flash back to Henry and Betty- he gives her a key and a drawer and she keeps stumbling over it all asking what it means- Henry keeps going forward as thought things are ok but obviously Betty is uncomfortable. It's a bittersweet moment- she is living with Henry, but underneath that he is still leaving eventually to go be with Charlie and the baby....

Hilda accidentally spills the beans to her dad about what Betty did in order for him to get his visa...

...Christina and Stuart us the secret sex room, well, for it's intended purposes- and things seem better between them, until Stuart gets up to use the bathroom and Christina notices a needle sticking out of his bag (was he a drug user as well as a drunk?).

Daniel shows up at the hotel trying to give his dad something in a red box, and the message that he won't be attending the wedding- but he didn't know that his dad and Wilhemina had separate hotel rooms, so he knocks on her door. While they are talking, he hears a toilet flush- Wilhemina lies that it's Posh, but Daniel hides around the corner and sees the bodyguard leaving the room a while later...

Christina confronts Stuart, and finds out that he is on drugs- but because he is dying, his liver is failing because of the years of drinking and he is in NY to try an experimental treatment that costs $100,000 that he can't afford. Oh, and he has 6 months to live.

Finally, the pre-wedding reception- Mark's boyfriend Cliff shows up looking fierce! To quote Mark "Who knew there were hardwood floors under that shag carpet?!?" Unfortunately, Mark gets jealous that Cliff, with his new found hotness, is talking to a hot waiter and breaks up with him. After a hyped up dragged out speech from Amanda about how Mark has fallen for an 'average man', Mark goes over to Cliff and they make up (of course).

Henry makes Betty go to her dad's Citizenship Ceremony, even though she is fighting with her dad, and Henry explains the reason she needs to go is because when he leaves, her family is the ones who will support her through the pain when he is gone. Betty and her dad talk, and he tells Betty she doesn't have to keep the secret about Wilhemina and the bodyguard now that he is a citizen, she can help Daniel stop the wedding.

Skip to Wilhemina getting ready to walk down the alter- sans Posh (because she is locked in a closet!) Wilhemina got tired of all the attention she was losing to Victoria and had her bodyguard lock her away!!! As the ceremony starts, the doors burst open and Betty runs in and screams, "I OBJECT!" (they weren't up to that part yet...)

Of course once Daniel finds out that Betty knew four months earlier, he gets mad and fires her. Then Daniel goes and interrupts the ceremony but Bradford doesn't believe him. (Amanda entertains all the guests with a painful version of Keli's Milkshake) As Bradford stands there, his heartbeat gets louder and louder- and he collapses!!!

I am interrupting myself here to say that the music that starts playing as Bradford lays there and people try to save him is by far the best song ever used ever on tv- it was in West Wing too- it's the song 'Hallelujah' and I know the Rafi version- I am not sure who sings this one, but BRAVO, well done!!!

Of course, since they are broadcasting the wedding live everywhere, Betty sees Daniel fighting to save his dad's life on the huge TV screen in Times Square- and the episode ends.

Breathe out. Great episode.

Big Shots & Grey's Anatomy

Big Shots

The show is losing momentum- how many times can we watch the same thing over and over again before our attention starts to wander elsewhere?

I know they drop a tiny new bit of info about each character in pretty much every episode, but its getting real slow, real fast!

Grey's Anatomy

The reason I posted these two together (besides watching them back to back tonight) is that they are both losing steam the same way.

The only interesting things that happened this week was that Callie finally got fired as Chief Resident and Dr. Bailey hired in her place (come on, she was doing all the work anyway!)
Oh, and Izzie and George can't find the chemistry they had the first time they had sex and keep desperately trying. The entire show. With no luck.
Blah.

I missed Ugly Betty, so I will have to watch it online later- Victoria Beckham makes an appearance so here's hoping it was awesome!

Ugly Betty

YAY! Justin's BAAAAAAACKKKK!!!!
The first 15 minutes of this weeks episode was are awesome- tons of really funny one liners and cute scenes.

First, Justin is totally back to his awesome happy self- going so far as to ask Hilda if its true that at the salon where she works Beyonce and Fergie got into a fight- and Hilda says she doesn't like to draw attention to herself- after taking of her coat to reveal an orange low cut tank top with 'Freshly Squeezed' on it.

This is a must see episode and I am so happy about it!

And it keeps getting better- I am writing this at every commercial break- Ok, turns out Hilda got fired from the salon and works at a Hooters like place called 'HighBeams', but is lying to everyone so they won't be mad that she isn't following her dream of being a hairdresser. Justin finds this all out because a classmate plays him a video on a cellphone that his dad took, showing Hilda laughing at the bar.

Betty and Henry make plans to see Wicked, and Betty gets tickets from Daniel- but tells him she's going with Gio the sandwich guy who is her boyfriend, because Daniel said if she was dating Henry he would fire him! Daniel ends up giving the tickets directly to Gio, so Betty gets Amanda to get her a 2nd set and she shows up at the theater with Henry, while Gio shows up with his little sister.
Unfortunately, Betty and Henry can't catch a break because DANIEL shows up too- with guest star Milo Thomas playing a cougar-ish possible advertiser that Daniel is trying to get to advertise in Mode so he can save the magazine. Betty has to sit next to Gio because Daniel's seats are next to the tickets he gave to Gio!!!

They really filmed at Wicked, and show snippets of the actual show, including part of the song 'Popular'- and since Henry and Betty can't sit together, they text each other and sneeze and cough across the theater to say hello- until Gio puts his arm around Betty to act like her bf in front of Daniel, and Henry gets jealous.
Henry tells Betty in the lobby that she keeps saying how hard it will be for her when he leaves in 5 months, but she never takes into account that he has to leave her, and his heart will be broken too. Kind of a weak argument, wouldn't work in real life, but it's Henry sooo....

Um, no Kenny in this episode yet- odd, I liked him.

Mark keeps avoiding introducing Cliff to anyone, and Cliff finally has enough and breaks up with him in front of Amanda, while Whilhemina spends most of the episode eating sandwiches and meat to try to gain 6 pounds so her wedding dress will fit.

Each commercial break brings something even better- Mark makes up with Cliff and invites him to Whilhemina's wedding, more Wicked music- Betty and Henry go outside of the theater to talk and Daniel and the ad lady come out, so Betty and Henry run backstage by accident- but I'll get back to that- Daniel tells her he can't seduce her just to get her ads, and goes on the explain why she should advertise with Mode, and she says the funniest thing- "I'll have my ad rep call you in the morning. You know, you have a nice tush honey, but smart guys are a turn-off!" Then she slaps his butt as she walks out of the coat room! Back to Betty and Henry- hiding backstage, they suddenly get lifted up onto the stage as they are kissing and the entire show stops- and Henry says "Smile Betty- we're on Broadway!"

I LOVE IT!!!!!

Ten minutes left- hope it ends with a bang!

It does get better- Daniel confronts Betty behind the theater about how stupid she is being, and Betty tells Henry she just can't do it anymore, but when she gets home, she tells Hilda- who says the best thing- she tells Betty she only has 5 months, what is she still doing here, when there is a man out there who loves her? She tells Betty if she could have one minute with Santos she would, even if it would hurt after.
So Betty goes to Henry's apartment (with the Wicked music playing in the background) and they kiss and she goes in.

Meanwhile, Justin tells Hilda he and Grandpa need to talk to her in the kitchen- and she is mad Justin told about the job thing, but it turns out they bought her a hairdryer chair and are going to help her have her salon in the house!

Awesome episode- everyone should watch it, even if you don't always watch this show!!!!

Ugly Betty

Mark has a love interest- or two!
Yay! Unfortunately Mark misunderstands that Cliff (the funny cute but not so hot one) is asking him out on a date and stands him up to go out with Marcos (the very hot male underwear model). However, in a moment of human-ness, Mark goes out with Cliff after almost standing him up and ends up back at his apartment! Yay!

I repeat from last week, I hate that Justin in turning into a 'bad guy' because his dad died. He was such an awesome character till this darkness, I hope he gets back to his good old self soon. More on that in a minute.

Betty fails miserable at dating (The old guy at the bowling alley actually sneaks out during their first date- so sad!), and keeps running into Henry at awkward moments. They end up at a romantic restaurant on date night and it's so sweet and cute. Of course, people in the place think Henry is proposing to Betty and then she gets overwhelmed and leaves, so it's sad- but you know there is hope that these two will end up together yet this season! (Plus, where did sandwich guy go? I kinda thought he'd end up as Betty's replacement love interest...) Anyhoo, Henry decides to leave Mode (wait, didn't he do this already a few times???) until Betty rushes out the door and kisses Henry full on the mouth! Huh?
They agree that for the 5 months till Henry goes to Tucson for the birth of his son by Charlie, they will be together...

Hilda has started hanging out with old women who have also lost their husbands, and while it has funny moments, it is also obviously sad. By the end of the episode she is over them, and has a moment of truth with Justin.

And DUM DUM DUM Christina's husband text messages her... (no idea where that storyline is going yet but I'm listening...)

Alexis starts to remember all the details from before the accident and Daniel finds out that she cut the breaks on their dad's car, and that's why they ended up crashing- which works well with the Justin storyline of him stealing Hilda's car and crashing it... obviously he is upset that she hasn't been paying attention to him and he is acting out... sniff sob..bring back happy Justin.

Decent episode- Wilhemina is still determined to bring Mode down to ground so she can start her own fashion magazine, and Claire Meade is still batty and is on her way to Italy with her escape convict cell-mate.
